The Culture, Sport and Tourism
Service plays a crucial role, either through direct
service provision, or enabling others in providing
opportunities for residents and visitors to the
Borough to use their leisure time enjoyably.
Community Arts Development –
Oversees the implementation of the Council’s Arts
and Cultural Strategy, assist local artists and arts
organisations, and, Community Partnerships
to
develop art activity that meets local needs and
aspirations.
Cooper Gallery – We operate
the gallery on behalf of the Cooper Trustees.
Conserving and displaying the permanent art
collection, and organising temporary art exhibitions
and community based activities and events.
Tourism Development – We
provide information and support for developing
tourism businesses as an aid to the regeneration. We
also operate the Tourist Information Centre. Tourism
Development is also responsible for a number of
major events and festivals.
Cannon Hall Museum, Park and
Gardens – A 17th/18th century country house museum,
with 70 acres of formal gardens and landscaped
parkland, Cannon Hall displays collections of fine
and decorative arts and a regimental collection.
Offering an educational service to schools, and an
events programme and facilities for civil marriages
and conferences.
Elsecar Heritage – A heritage
based visitor and educational attraction which
stages special events and the manages Building 21
events and
conferencing centre and offers workspaces for
individual small businesses.
Worsbrough Mill and Country
Park – Operates Worsbrough Mill as a working museum
and maintains Worsbrough Country Park.
Sport and Active Recreation –
Provides the strategic planning and co-ordination of
the Sport and Active Recreation Strategy to ensure
that provision meets the identified needs of the
communities.
